First Grade Friday News - January 14


Chapel offerings during January will go to Heifer International.  We will start by buying a water buffalo to give to a family overseas. Water buffalos will provide families in need with milk and help in planting crops.  Send your banks back to school when they are full.

Report cards and your child’s latest STAR reading test report were sent home on Thursday, Jan. 10.  You do not need to return either of these to school, but please sign and return the attached signature form so that I know you received them.

Dates to remember:
          Fri., Jan. 18           Book orders due (Order online or pay by check.)
Mon., Jan. 21         No school, Teacher professional development day
Wed., Jan. 30        Kindergarten and first grade lead chapel.  (Come and worship with us.)
Week of Jan. 27    National Lutheran Schools Week (Watch for information coming home soon.)

The week ahead:
Spelling words:  chip, chin, inch, catch, match, itch, wish, shop, how, many
(Most children need daily, written practice to do well on spelling tests.)
Religion:  Jesus calls His disciples
Reading skill:  Predicting outcomes
Math:  Doubles plus 1 addition facts, Adding two-digit numbers
Language/Writing:  Proper nouns, “Tell me more” sentences
Science/Social Studies:  Antarctica, Martin Luther King
Character Education:  Trustworthiness
Nature Club:  Making bird feeders
